Academics
All six MCS elementary schools follow the same academic curriculum in core subject areas. East Washington Academy also offers a High Ability Program that offers a more rigorous curriculum for students demonstrating or showing potential to go beyond general education. Details on the High Ability Program can be found here. Details on all other academic programs are below.
Language Arts
Amplify CKLA is a unique core curriculum for grades PreK–5 ELA that’s grounded in the Science of Reading and combines rich, diverse content knowledge in history, science, literature, and the arts with systematic research-based foundational skills instruction.
Science
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) In grades 1-5, students already have the qualities of great designers and innovators. What PLTW Launch does is tap into their exploratory nature, engage them in learning that feels like play and encourage them to keep discovering – now and for years to come.
PLTW Launch’s 43 interdisciplinary modules bring learning to life. The program empowers students to adopt a design-thinking mindset through compelling activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the world around them. And as students engage in hands-on activities in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, they become creative, collaborative problem solvers ready to take on any challenge.
Math
Ready Mathematics helps teachers create a rich classroom environment in which students at all levels become active, real-world problem solvers. Through teacher-led instruction, students develop mathematical reasoning, engage in discourse and build strong math habits. The program allows students to take ownership of their learning and increase their conceptual understanding.
